sitting in the kokopo market in east new britain island in papua new guinea, two women sit side by side, leaning against a wooden pole structure of the market. while it appears that two pictures have been combined, the women are sitting alongside each other. the women on the left has a full face of 'maus-gras', the local term used for a 'beard'. it is not uncommon for women in the area to have beards, and despite their dark skin, blonde curly hair is the norm.
