The northern region of the Pantanal, in the state of Mato Grosso, has been experiencing a sequence of three consecutive extreme dry seasons over as many years. 2011 was the driest. Deep in the Pantanal I found a lake where a community of fauna had concentrated; many animals in a reduced space. For years I have been wanting to find such a vista where I could use flash photography and a torch to pick up the eyeshine of Spectacled Caiman. Their eyeshine seemed like a big city.
