Often overlooked and deemed as a nuisance bird, the Anhinga is actually unique and beautifully colored. The anhinga is also known as the "Water Turkey" or the "Snake Bird" because of it's swimming habits, it's broad tail and it's propensity to submerge it's entire body under water while it's head and long neck remain above the surface. A bird of the southern swamps, the Anhinga is common to all areas of the South Carolina low country.
