A floating village in the middle of Tonle Sap Lake has become a popular place for tourists to snap their photos. Instead, I walked the edge of the lake, to a more modest community. There were no tour boats anywhere near this overlooked village. A curious, scowling girl paddled her boat up to me. I waved and she waved back, the scowl unyielding. On land, her father approached and offered to give me a ride. He paddled between the floating homes and his stoic daughter watched intently as I photographed their unusual neighborhood, wondering why I was here on her little leaky boat.
