Photo and caption by Gregory Fricker
This photo depicts the "picador" of a bullfight wearing the traditional traje de luces. The picador is one on horseback whose role it is to use a lance to tire the bull through repeated jabbing. I made this photo while studying abroad in Spain. This photo speaks to me because I feel that it captures the lifestyle of the picador, the culture of the bullfight, yet not revealing the identity of the person. To me, removing the identity tells such a grander story of who someone really is and that is what I feel this photo has captured.
