From left to right, Tonaltzin, Ayolotzin, the baby's cousin Acamitzin, and the dancer Tlakatecolotl, in full regalia before a public performance at the Monterey Bay Aquarium's “Fiesta del Mar.” All of them are part of the Aztec dance collective Yaocuauhtli, based in Salinas, California. Members of the group adhere closely to every formal aspect of their ancestor's rituals in dance, through prayer, and in their own conduct, including making almost all elements of the regalia they wear by hand. Tonaltzin, the mother, dances with the baby wrapped tightly in front of her.

Location: Monterey, California
