Red Tides Rush In

In October 2011, San Diego had an amazing red tide bloom. As I stood on the beach late one night photographing the neon blue crashing waves, I looked behind me to check on my kids. It was at this time that I realized how many people were standing on the beach watching the luminescent waves in awe. Shooting the crowd was a challenge, considering the angle required me to stand in the surf break, causing my tripod to sink into the sand! This image of the spectators truly captured the ethereal feel of what we were witnessing in the surf.
