There is nothing worse when you are deployed than sand storms. It's nothing like the movies where sand comes whipping through to scour everything in site and then is gone in a few minutes. It would be more accurate to call them dust storms and they are far more insidious. The air fills with this fine dust that covers everything and gets everywhere. Breathing, even with a scarf, becomes difficult. Vehicles, AC units and aircraft come to a halt because filters are clogged with grime. All you can do is wait it out. This particular storm lasted 3 days.
