Rattlesnakes are one of the few reptile species that show some parental care. When I found this adult male Southwestern Speckled rattlesnake (Crotalus mitchelli pyrrhus), he swiftly coiled around one of his apparent offspring and drew it in close to his body. As I focused my lens, both snakes tongue-flicked in unison and I was lucky enough to capture the moment!
