Stopped in Time

I was photographing a pod of Humpback Whales in Juneau. There was a massive bubble net feed going on. One of the younger whales started slapping the water with his flippers and doing tail lobs. Then, he did a deep dive. I took a calculated guess of where he would come up and waited. My arms begin to ache and burn from holding the lens still for so long, the, this huge form rose out of the water, and I fired. As long as I have been shooting whales, this is the first time I have ever caught one, not only completely out of the water, but also giving the illusion of flying.
