I made this photograph on a beautiful afternoon in Portland, Maine, less than a week before the Hurricane Irene swept up the East Coast of the U.S. What I find most striking about the image is Xochitl's exuberance juxtaposed against the slower moving elderly adults and the serenity of the place on that particular day. Her arms raised above her head, she seems to be the embodiment of youth and hope.
