- Hikers under the Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau, Alaska. When conditions are right, streams melt holes into the glacier. At times they are large and stable enough for exploration. The ice filters out most colors of light except for the blue wavelengths leaving a stunning blue glowing from the ice above.

- Nearly 400 parasitic cones ("oreums") made from ancient volcanic material dot the landscape across Jeju Island, South Korea. Popular with local hikers, these unique formations make incredible backdrops for sunset photography. On one recent, fall afternoon I decided to hike up Saebyeol Oreum on the western side of the island. The weather can be unpredictable here. But, luck was with me on this day. As I arrived at the top, the setting sun's warm glow began to hit the hills at just the right angle, bathing the fields of pampass grass before me in wonderful warm light.

- A huge cargo ship, dwarfed by the Golden Gate, passing under the bridge, amidst dense fog. Fog so dense, that both the ship and the iconic bridge are hidden underneath; as if both are lost. Long exposure created ghosting of the moving ship, adding to the effect. This was phoograped after sunset.

- Chipping ice off an iceberg is a common way for the Inuit community to retrieve fresh drinking water while on the land. During a weekend long hunting trip, we came upon this majestic iceberg frozen in place. It was a perfect opportunity to grab enough ice and drinking water for the remainder of the trip.
