They're those corners of the world that you just can't get out of your mind. Places so special, or just plain weird, that they take on their own personalities. National Geographic scoured the United States to include just such places in its ZipUSA series.
This month visit Point Roberts, Washington, the five-square-mile (thirteen-square-kilometer) American tip of an otherwise Canadian peninsula. Other zips in the works range from a special school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that teaches its Indian students to embrace their heritage, to Elko, Nevada, a cow town where the Old West still lives.
