They're those corners of the world that you just can't get out of your mind. Places so special, or just plain weird, that they take on their own personalities. National Geographic scoured the United States to include just such places in its ZipUSA series.
This month visit Elko, Nevada, a cow town smack dab in the middle of rich gold-mining country. Other zips in the works range from Kelly, Wyoming, where an environmental school teaches students about nature and themselves, to Hartsville, South Carolina, where drag racing is a way of life.
