Despite the best efforts to ensure the health and safety of Colorado's newly returned cat, the lynx reintroduction program still suffers losses, some rather unexpected and even a bit bizarre. In late summer 2005, more than five years after he was released into Colorado's wilderness, the lynx nicknamed Larry, Chilkat's mate, wandered into an elk farm and was trampled to death.
