Now That’s a Grand Canyon

A digital elevation model dramatizes the rough terrain of Valles Marineris, a canyon system that cuts a path 2,500 miles [4,023 kilometers] long, or the distance from New York to San Francisco. Its walls dwarf Earth’s mile-deep Grand Canyon, with depths exceeding six miles [10 kilometers].
