Surrounded by six shriveled egg sacs vacated by their more precocious siblings, two froglets in Papua, New Guinea appear ready to hatch. These are a newly discovered species in the Microhylidae family, many members of which skip the tadpole stage and metamorphose within the egg. Biologists discover new species of frogs every year. But with so many species now in decline, well never know how many have been lost before theyve been found.
