Flawless Complexion
Photograph by Gianluca Colla

Zen-ei has a tan that show's he's had more than his fair share of the Okinawan sun. We asked him if he uses beauty creams or sunscreens, he dismissed the question with a smile and a wave of his hand. So why hasn't Zen-ei ever had skin cancer, despite a lifetime of fishing under the sun's rays? His darker complexion—lots of melanin—means that the sun doesn't reach—and damage—his skin cells easily.
